Mexicans have a culture of abundance. They drink a lot, eat a lot (of tacos of course), shout a lot, party a lot, smile a lot, cry a lot, love a lot, work a lot. Abundance all over the place, lots of people in the capital, lots of cars, lots of smog, lots of corruption, you name it. And though it is not India or China, it feels overwhelming when you are in the big city.
México has lots of fat people. It is a known fact that México is the número uno or dos obese country in the world. Here, have a look at this nice graph that I copied from the OECD.
No wonder why the government is in a constant battle with sugary drinks. Mexicans are the top drinkers of Coca Cola: 163 litres a year, each. That’s almost half a litre every day. Shit, that’s a lot. Sometimes the country is referred to as Mexicoke. Makes sense.
This is getting a bit dark eh?
México has lots of beautiful cities full of culture, my favourites: San Miguel de Allende, San Cristobal de las Casas, Guanajuato, Puebla, Morelia, Guadalajara, Tepoztlán, Taxco. And certainly lots of beautiful beaches: Huatulco, Puerto Escondido, Careyes, Playa del Carmen, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, just to name a few. México has lots of good food. Oh, delicious Mexican food. This is self explanatory so nothing to write here.
So now you will probably say “Sure David, you speak admirably of México but you live in Germany, why don’t you go back?” Well yes, I love my country and my culture, but I believe a very good way that the country (any country) will do better is if people leave it; then some people will return and some will stay abroad. This is ok. Move, Connect & Communicate.
Great, let’s celebrate.
Bis bald.
